A brief description for each of the Arizona Area Codes is given below:

Area Code 480 was created on April 1, 1999 to accommodate the ever increasing demands for telephone and dial-up internet connections in Phoenix. The code is providing telephone services to the cities of Mesa, Scottsdale, Tempe, Gilbert, and Fountain Hills.

Area code 520 is one the area codes allocated to the State of Arizona; it was created on 19th March 1995 as a result in splitting of area code 602. The code had a 520 split on 23 June, 2001. As a result, area code 928 was created. The code 520 was divided to accommodate the ever increasing demands for telephone connections. At that time, demands for telephone connections were increasing dramatically because of the population spurts; particularly in Tucson, Yuma and Flagstaff. Being an original area code, it served the entire State of Arizona until 1990s; now it is serving capital of the state - the Phoenix. The code split off in 1995 and gave birth to new code 520.

Area code 623 was created on 1st April 1999 for serving the counties of MARICOPA and YAVAPAI. The code was created as a result in split of area code 480. It is now providing telephone services to the cities of Glendale, Goodyear, Sun City and Peoria.

Area code 928 is one of the telephone area codes serving the State of Arizona - United States of America. The code was created on 23 June 2001 and providing telephone services to Flagstaff, Yuma, the Grand Canyon, Payson, Prescott and Kingman. It was created when area code 520 got a split because of the explosive demands for telephone lines.
