A brief description of Connecticut Area Codes is given below:

It is one of the original area codes created in 1947 for providing telephone services to the state. The western border, southern coast and regions beyond the New Haven City are served by the code 203. The last stop for this area code is the south of Hartford City. The rest of the Connecticut region uses the area code 860.

It is providing telephone services to the southwestern region of the state. The code is working as an overlay to existing code 203. This code will cover same geographical areas covered by the original code 203. The code will be implemented on December 12, 2009.

It was created in 1995 to overlay the area Code 203. It stretches from the eastern area and ends at the northwestern parts of Connecticut. This code also covers some areas on the western border of the state.

It was created in August 1999 as an overly to the code 860. It will serve the same regions as served by the existing code 860. This includes the region of Hartford, Norwich and the rest of northern and eastern Connecticut that presently served by the 860. In simple, it will serve the areas located outside the Fairfield and New Haven Counties.
