Area Code 305 is one of the original codes created in 1947. It was originally assigned to entire state of Florida. Right now it is serving all of Miami-Dade County and certain area of Monroe County that is in the Florida Keys.
Area Code 813 and 904 were split from the 305 area code in 1953 and 1965 respectively to fulfill the exhausted demands for telephone lines. Later on in 1988, new code 407 was created for certain areas of Palm Beach County, Brevard County, as well as the Orlando metropolitan areas.
After that in 1995 code 305 split to form area code 954 covering Broward County. With the passage of time and because of the population spurts, demands for telephone lines were increasing day by day. Area 305 was again running out for available phone numbers and so the area 786 was added as overlay in 1998. The overlaid area was created to cover Miami-Dade County.
At present the code 305 is used as telephone area code for the areas in South Florida. South Florida is division of Florida State - the state of United States. Standard Time Zone for all area codes serving Florida is Eastern Time Zone.
Florida is South Atlantic state -- one of the geographic divisions of United Stated. The division is comprised of total eight states and one district:
