A brief description of Kentucky Area Codes is given below:

It was created in April 1999 for providing numbering relief to area code 502. The code 270 is providing telephone services in about fifty counties. It was expected by the state officials in 2006 that the code will get exhausted and will need a numbering relief. As a result, it was announced on 31st May 2007 that the code 270 will split off and code 364 would be serving the regions located along the Pennyrile Parkway. However, the code 270 will keep on serving west-central Kentucky.

It is one of the original area codes created in 1947. It started running out of available phone numbers in 1954 and so area code 606 was created. 

It was introduced in 1955 for providing numbering relief to the area code 502. The easternmost region and Eastern Mountain Coal Fields of the State are served by the particular the code 606.

It was created in 1999 for providing numbering relief to area code 606. It is providing telephone services in counties of BATH, BOONE, BOURBON, BOYD, BOYLE and CAMPBELL.
