Area code 270 was created in April 1999 for providing numbering relief to area code 502. The code 270 provides telephone services to the Kentucky State of United States. It was predicted by the State officials in 2006 that the particular code will get exhausted and will need numbering relief.
It was announced on 31st May 2007 that the code 270 will split off. New area code 364 would be serving areas located along the Pennyrile Parkway while 270 will keep on serving west-central Kentucky. This declaration indicated that permissive dialing of the new area code will start on 1st April, 2008; however mandatory dialing to the new area code was supposed to be started on October 1, 2008.
However splitting off area code 270 never occurred and so area code 364 doesn't exist. The only reason for delaying of adding new area code was due to expanded number pooling (technique of reallocating telephone numbering space in NANP).
