It was added as an overlay to area code 781 in 2001. The code is providing telephone services in counties of ESSEX, MIDDLESEX, NORFOLK, PLYMOUTH and SUFFOLK.

It was originated as an overlay to area code 978 on 2nd May, 2001. The code is providing telephone services in Central Massachusetts, New England.  Later on the code 351 was added as an overlay to area code 978 on May 2, 2001.

It is one the largest area codes covering Western Massachusetts. It was created in 1947 and it now covers area starting all the way from western state line to Worcester County. It also includes just two towns of Worcester -- Hardwick and Warren.

This area code is providing telephone services in Central Massachusetts. It was assigned to areas which were previously the part of area code 617. Area code 617 got split on 16th July, 1988 when it got heavily populated and the demand for telephone connections increased. The newly split area was allocated with new area code 508.

It is one of the original area codes providing telephone services in state. It was overlaid by area code 857 in 2001 because of the exhausted demands for telephone lines.

It was created in 2001 for providing telephone services in Southern region of Massachusetts. This code was added as an overlay to area code 508 it was running out of available phone numbers.
