Area Code 308 was created on 1st July 1954 as a result in split off area code 402. The code was introduced in the State of Nebraska for providing numbering relief to area code 402. The 402 area code was running out of available phone numbers because of the population spurt and exhausted demands for telephone connections.  Majority area of the Western Nebraska is served by the code 308 while after a split; now the 402 area code retains only the eastern regions of the Nebraska State of United States.
