The state contains so many silver deposits and this is why it is known by its nick name, The Silver Star. It entered into statehood in 1864. NANP assigned the state with area code 702 in 1947.
At present, there are only two area codes providing telephone services in the state of Nevada.

However, right now it is reserved only for Las Vegas which is largest city of the state. It was split off on 12th December, 1998 and formed new area code 775. The code is providing telephone services in the county of Clark and Las Vegas City.

It was created in 1998 as a result in split of area code 702. It is providing telephone services in the majority areas of state. The most important cities getting services from the code are Reno and the Carson City.
