It is one of the original area codes created in 1947. It is providing telephone services in North region of the state of New Jersey. Majority areas of the Hudson and Bergen counties are covered by area code 201. Before 1958, 201 was the only area code serving New Jersey. The state split the area code in that year and associated southern areas with new code 609.

It is providing telephone services in North region of New Jersey. The code was created as an overlay to area code 201 in 2001. The code was added as an overlay to area code 201 when the two counties Hudson County and Bergen County required telephone numbers exhaustedly.

It was created to provide telephone services in southeastern as well as central regions of the state. It was created in 1958 as a result in split of area code 201. This area code also serves the state capital of Trenton, Princeton, and Atlantic City. Some areas of Jersey Shore and Atlantic City are also served by this area code.

It is providing telephone services in Central Jersey. The code was created on 1st June, 1997 when area code 908 got a split. The 732 code covers small area of North/Central Jersey and Jersey Shore area of New Jersey.

It was created as an overlay to area code 732 in 2001. The code was added as an overlay when the pool of 732 numbers reached just about to end. It is providing telephone services in Central Jersey.

It is providing telephone services in southern region of the state. The code was created in 1999 as a result in split of area code 609. Area Code 609 was split because of the exhausted demands for phone numbers. Separate telephone numbers are required for businesses, fax machines or pagers etc. This area code is assigned to land line numbers as well as mobile phones.

It is providing telephone services in Northern region of the state. It was created in 2001 as an overlay to area code 973.

It was created on 8th June 1991 for providing telephone services in Central region of the state. The code came into being when area code 201 had run out of phone numbers and there was no other option except to divide. The code 908 split again into area code 732 on 1st January 1997 for serving North/Central areas of the state.

It was created on 1st June 1997 and serves Northern Areas of New Jersey. This code was established as a result in split of area code 201. Population spurts and exhausted demands for telephone lines made area 973 exhausted and to overcome the problem, it was overlaid by new area code 862. Also, it became mandatory to dial a ten digit number even while making local calls.
