Telephone area code used in New York City is 212 -- the code was created in 1947. At present, only the area of Manhattan keeps hold of the area code 212.
With the passage of time area code 212 was overlaid with area codes 646 and 917.

This area code is serving Central New York. it Code 315 extends from west of Syracuse to Little Falls, north to the Canadian border, east to Massena and south to near Cortland. Area code 315 is one of the original codes created in 1947.

Area code 347 serves two area codes as an overlay ? code 718 and code 917.  The Code 347 was created on 1st October, 1999 and is serving New York City regions. It was added as an overlay to area 718 and 917.

Area code 516 is telephone area code for New York City Region, New York ? Middle Atlantic State of United States. The area code was created in 1952. According to area code schemes of 1947 Nassau was assigned with a 914 area code. However it got split from area code 914 and assigned with new area code 516 in 1951.
