Area code 914 is one of the original area codes created in 1947. It is used as telephone area code in New York City - United States. It covers the borders of Westchester County and the Hudson River completely.
The Code 914 was split on 5th June, 2000 ? before split the was covering Westchester along with counties of Delaware County, Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam and Rockland. After area split code 914 was left only with Westchester and the remaining areas were assigned with new area code 845. It got split because of the rising popularity and commercialization of mobile phones and internet dial-up connections.
Phone numbers which had already been assigned with the 914 area code before split retained 914 as their area code even after split and creation of code 845. Other than the aforesaid counties, 914 also served Long Island's Nassau and Suffolk until the 914 area code was originated in 1951.
However at present there are total seven area codes serving the region of New York City.
