Area Code 919 serves some areas of the Piedmont Region of North Carolina in United States. The code 919 was created in 1950 when the area code 704 split off. The 919 code was emerged to serve all eastern areas of the state from Winston-Salem to Wilmington.
However, in 1993 the supply of numbers was deemed insufficient. To beat the problem the western and southern areas of the area code were split off to form area code 910. After that again in 1998 the northeastern area was split off to create area code 252. Area code 984 has also been planned in case if the region runs out of the combinations for telephone numbers.
