Area Code 801

Area Code 801 is serving the Utah State of United States since 1947. The particular code is overlaid with area code 385. The Code 801 served the entire State of Utah until 1997 when all counties located outside of the Wasatch Front were allocated with the 435 area code.
The Utah Public Service Commission (PSC) agreed on a split for the 801 area code in 2000. It was planned to assign the counties of Davis, Weber, Morgan and Utah with new area code 385 but the plan was postponed and is still not implemented. The PSC declared again in 2007 to add an overlay area code 835 (instead of split) as the existing code will run out of the available phone numbers in around June 2008.
The overlay area codes 801 and 835 launched mandatory ten-digit local dialing 1st March 2009. The 801 area code is completely surrounded by area code 735.
