Area Code 360 is allocated to the areas located western Washington but outside of the greater Seattle metropolitan area. All the areas that fall under western Washington region were first part of the original code 206. Western Washington just like the main Washington state follows the Pacific Time Zone.

History and Geographical localities part of the areas covered by 360:

Area Code 360 was created on January 15, 1995 as an overlay for 206; but it was assigned only to the western Washington area. In the American Area Code's history that the Codes 360 and 334 were the first that does not include 1 or 0 as their middle digit. Overlay Plan for the Area Code 360:

564 was proposed in 1999 to overlay the existing Area Code 360 but then Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) deferred the new implementation plan for an indefinite length of time. WUTC believes that current phone number stock with 360 is sufficient to fulfill the phone number demands till 2012.
However 564, when implemented wills server all the areas part of the western Washington and 10-digit dialing will be mandatory within this area even to make local calls. There will be no effect on the cost of the local area calls and they will free as they used to be.
