Area Code 564 is intended to serve the western Washington and the Seattle areas - the largest city of the state of Washington. This is the most literate city of United States. This code will be following the Pacific Time Zone.

Implementation Plan for the Area Code:

The 564 was proposed in 1999; it was planned first to overlay area code 360 only. But it was later expended in May 2000. The newly proposed 564 will now other codes (206, 253, 360, & 425) as well. As at that time it was projected that 206, 253, and 425 will soon run out of their phone number stock.
This new area code was first supposed to go into effect on July 29, 2000, but at that time Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) figured out the demand for the 360 area code phone number has greatly reduced and the overlay pan was deferred till February 2001. However On August 22, 2001, WUTC noticed an improvement in the reuse of existing phone numbers and immediate implementation of the Area Code was again postponed till October 20, 2002. According to the latest update, the 564 is projected to be implemented in 2nd quarter of 2012.
The area code 564 was the first overlay code for Washington area; the previous codes were split from 206.
